Gregory Benton has been making comix since 1993.

He cut his teeth on the political anthology World War 3, moving on to writing and drawing stories for First Second Books’ Fable Comics, SpongeBob Comics, Nickelodoeon Magazine, Vertigo, DC Comics, Disney Adventures, Watson-Guptil, Entertainment Weekly, as well as contributing to numerous alternate-press comix anthologies. A graphic novel, Hummingbird, was published by Slave Labor Graphics in 1996 and reprinted in The Mammoth Book of Cult Comics in 2014. Gregory has also produced numerous limited-edition mini-comix, some of which reside in The Library of Congress’ rare books collection.

In April of 2013, his book B+F was awarded the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art’s inaugural Award of Excellence at MoCCAFest 2013. An expanded version of B+F was published in the autumn of 2013 through Adhouse Books (USA) and Editions çà et là (France). The long form edition of B+F was selected for the Society of Illustrators first Comics and Cartoon Art Annual in 2014.

SMOKE was released September 2015 and is Gregory’s first graphic novel for Hang Dai Editions, a publishing collective he co-created with artists Dean Haspiel, Seth Kushner and Josh Neufeld. The book received a starred review from Publishers Weekly in November 2015 and was selected for the Society of Illustrators Comics and Cartoon Art Annual in 2016.

Gregory is currently at work on the next B+F book.
